The 35 Minutes That Sum It Up Best: Motivational Karaoke, "Spring Training Eve"

Today while driving around South Austin, my iPod bringed me a blast from me past.  A 35-minute segment of Motivational Karoke, the WESN radio show that Chris Golwitzer and I painstakingly crafted from 2002-2005.  It wunt crafted.  It wunt no pain. Part 5 of "SPRING TRAINING EVE (2/22/04) just seemed to sum up what we were about. It starts with an interview with Ted Leo after he blew out his voice in Champaign and I finished the singing for him.  That ends with a clip of Babe Ruth with a fake swear word beeped in. We played Ted Leo quite a bit. A new song that's old now. A lengthy, lie-riddled microphone break, back-selling a lot of things that we used to play.  A tongue lashing of the DJs on before us. An explanation of what Google is and how to spell it, followed by the futile spelling of our very long impossible find website. We were doing Dream Warriorisms then because we were on from 12-2am at that time.  We went retro and pulled out a Motivational Karo

Hoax or Not, It's Live Where You Listen To Music

Image
Where do you listen to your jams?  Surely not the CD player.  Good, I ain't got this on CD. Spotify? Amazon? Apple Music?  iTunes?  Is that the same thing? It's everywhere. Bandcamp.com https://earscum.bandcamp.com/album/hoax is my favorite because you can support me harder.    This album is a collage of audio, ideas and captive participants.  June, the Chihuahua sings on it.  Records, voicemails, old cassette recordings and smartphone field recordings have all been forced into service. In celebration of Ken Griffey Jr's Major League Baseball for Nintendo 64 and the 50th Anniversary of the moon landing, Coldcock Jones and EarScum give you this.  Digital Magic. Enjoy.  Contact us if you have questions.

Miami Vice - CHiPs + Dirty Harry / Chihuahuas = MoPac

Image
If there’s 1 thing you need to know about Austin, TX, it is the exhilarating excitement of driving on “MoPac,” aka Texas State Highway 1. Inspired by my favorite non-baseball Twitter follow, @EvilMopacATX , the Official Voice of MoPac®, I devised an Official Theme Song®. While an avid fan of Bon Jovi® , l decided that Mopes deserved something other than it probably desired.  This is the game that Mopes plays.  Besides, most of the song bits had already been recorded long ago.  I just, figuratively, built a new express lane and advertised it as an improvement.  It still feels like it goes nowhere. The vibe I had pictured was the opening to an early 80s TV action/drama like Miami Vice® , but with the vibe of an action drama like CHiPs® as well.  I then could not resist the dramatic sound effects of a Dirty Harry® film.  Then I found an alternate version I forgot working on and haphazardly slapped it on the end as an outro®. Short Story Long©️, while people

ArsoNick Who? Scumthology?! Yeah, It's back.

Image
ArsoNick Scum's "SCUMTHOLOGY" released on the interweb! Old friends and foes may remember this anthology which circulated in 2001 or 2002.  Uplaying the early years of ArsoNick Scum (1996-2001), it's a would-be greatest hits had any of these been hits... or great.  Ever dropped out of college?  I suggest "Hot Damn." I'm not really in the mood to explain nor defend any of these songs, but check them out.  You can buy them for $1 each, or get all 35 tracks for $5 (29 tracks + 6 bonus tracks). New things are scary.  Old things can be scarier.  Go get scared. SCUMTHOLOGY ON BANDCAMP.COM (click here) If that's not enough, get back in the #309TimeMachine and let's go get some coffee! "Biscuit Time" ArsoNick/Coldcock @ The Coffeehouse (Normal, IL) 2004ish. (click here)

Super88: Top 15 All-Time Peoria Rock Band Probably.

Image
Super88 has now been rolling for 20+ years.  Twice as long as the Beatles because they’re twice as good, I guess.  Soon, the albums ROCK N’ ROLL EXTRAVAGANZA and LIGHTS IT UP   will be released to the world via widespread rampant streaming and downloading services, just like The Beatles. For now, though, I want you to know that they are available on Bandcamp.com and you should check them out.  Best stuff I’ve ever worked on (RnR Extravaganza - rhythm guitar).  It was recorded by Mark Rubel (Pogo Studio) in Champaign/Urbana in 2005/2006.  I think that, at the time, after I had announced that I was up and moving to Chicago, that this might be it... let's blow the money we have saved on an album in the studio... however, I was unraveling at the time, may remember it wrong... regardless, this happened.  Mark Rubel is a badass.  Fantastic guy to work with.  If audio engineering never existed, he'd be a name in the game of psychiatry. There are a handful of things tha

How Did I Forget This Existed?

Image
How did I forget that Gigety.tv  filmed the 2012  Coldcock Jones & The Shithawks farewell to Chicago show with Bitter Wigs, Taddy Porter and Dripping Slits .  Unfortunately the wiffleball game between Double Door and Reggies was not captured... by Gigety, that is.  Scouts Honor Productions (Ivan Ortega) captured it.  We'll get to that someday. That being said, feel free to watch it.  It kicks off with Bloomington/Normal 's DRIPPING SLITS . If you're impressed with the video, you can now purchase " LIVE IN CHICAGO " on bandcamp.com.  Or buy your favorite track.  Or don't do anything, see if I care.  I still have beers . Click on the poster to watch the video.

EarScum on Spotify, Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, Russian pirating sites, etc.

Image
You can find EarScum material all over the place now, but not Instagram.  I'd need another hand and day of the week. However , being audio based, and now on Spotify , you can listen to a stable of material via the EARSCUMS PLAYLIST .  If you're on the thing, click that.  At this time there are releases by ArsoNick Scum , Coldcock Jones (with and without The Shithawks ) and Semicids .  Coming soon: Super88! If you'd rather get your music from Bandcamp , that's fine with me.  Get tracks and albums unavailable elsewhere for cheap.  You can pay extra if you want, it goes into expenses, not drugs.  See Coldcock Jones , Semicids , Super88 and very soon, a BUNCH of old ArsoNick Scum numbers. I think whatever you listen to music on... iTunes, Amazon, Napster, etc ... it's there.  Look it up. If Twitter is your game, you can find me there @EarScum  or mess with @ColdcockJones or me directly @309ROSEMAN .  You can even follow our baseball team, YES... a baseball t

Re-Release of COLDCOCK JONES "2-MINUTE WARNINGS" Set for May 11th, 2019 (but get it now... kinda)

Image
As long as we're at it, let's re-release Coldcock Jones' "2-Minute Warnings: The Gospels of Moderation."   It releases on everything, including Bandcamp.com  on May 11, 2019. Spotify, iTunes, Amazon, Napster, Crapster, you name it.  YouTubes as well. It's the best* Coldcock shit for your kids and mom to hear. Check it out. It was recorded to be played as a complete album, but how does that work online with your Pandora app?  Not right, so go ahead and listen to it now as it was meant to be played... and by that, I mean far longer than your attention span will allow.  Click on Jake Taylor's GIF to download/listen to it.

WTF... Let's Release An Album!

Image
EarScum reluctantly announces the release of COLDCOCK JONES' "WTF LP."  A collection of unreleased and/or instrumental and/or experiments.  Get the tracks for 50 cents each or the whole album for $1.  You can pay more, if you like, which is fine with me, but I won't judge. Some of these tracks are with the world famous SHITHAWKS, some with world famous ALEX MOORE of LUNCHROOM STUDIOS in Buda, TX and some are just me.  Of COURSE there is a trilogy with my man, DANNY SEVERSON (aka Clayton "Dirty" Sanchez). Just go check it out on Bandcamp.com. GO THERE VIA THIS CLICKY LINK!

Anybody Wanna Watch Some Bloody F. Mess?

Image
So a little Bloody Birdy tells me that Nick Zedd ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nick_Zedd ) filmed this video.  Check it out.  Bloody is thriving in Oregon.  He's making a (309) run and playing PEORIA PIZZA WORKS on April 19th with Divine Dirt/The Sadistic Cowboys/Super 88/ The River Bottom Scum (  https://www.facebook.com/events/438268770344412/  ) Here's another video with his band, DIVINE DIRT . Warning, there is a little graphic depictioning of drug use. I first discovered Bloody listening to WWCT's Lytle & Lamb morning show in High School.  My friend Bobby Schifano (RIP) and I came across his fantastic cassette, "6th Grade Field Trip" and a Black & Blue Records comp at MOTHER MURPHY 's.  He bought one, I bought the other. Somewhere along the line, he put out a local music compilation, CONCRETE & CORNFIELDS  (1998).  When I heard about that, I tracked him down and sent him a demo, in the hopes of making the next comp.  Ge

Semicids Be Alive... on Bandcamp.

Image
Ahead of the Feb. 11th digital release of “Recess,” the 1989 album by Bloomington/Normal punk rock band, Semicids, it has... well, been released on Bandcamp.com.  If you haven’t already (and I’ve already pimped this to many of you) go check it out.  Listen to tracks for free and feel free to purchase the album and support the release of more albums to widespread digital availability, and perhaps a future vinyl release. Purchase any of the tracks for $1 each, or for $7, get the entire album as well as two bonus tracks that comprise the bootleg recording of Semicids live at a 1990 house party in Normal, as well as a few photos and the gratification that you contributed to the cause.
